Ben Shirley

Ben Shirley is a graduate of UNC Chapel Hill and the Music Teacher Certification program at Georgia State University.  Ben studied classical cello at UNC, but his passion for all kinds of music — especially jazz, rock, world folk music, and improvisation — has made him a versatile performer and teacher.  As a multi-instrumentalist, Ben has played the cello, fiddle, guitar, and banjo in hundreds of performances in cities across the country.  Ben believes that learning the fundamentals of an instrument should be fun and liberating, and his ultimate goal is to help students find their own creative musical voice.  In addition to all levels of cello and guitar, Ben teaches beginning piano and violin lessons.
Ben is active in the Atlanta music scene, performing and collaborating with a wide variety of groups including Faun and a Pan Flute, Artifactual String Unit, and the Living Space Trio (with fellow Play More Music teacher Scotty Bryan).  In addition to playing and composing music, he is an avid record collector and vegetable gardener.
