Studio Policies: In-Home Lessons

General

  • Play More Music is a group of passionate instructors with a commitment to music education. All instructors will be positive, encouraging, and honest about each student’s individual needs.
    • Lessons are taught year-round in 5 sessions. Students may enroll for 30-, 45-, or 60-minute lessons and the teacher will come at the same time each week. Longer lessons are available. Students 14 years and older must enroll in 45min lessons.
    • An intro-session of lessons can be arranged: three 45-minute lessons, or four 30-minute lessons on consecutive weeks. No makeup lesson. After the trial, the student may decide to continue with the teacher/instrument or try a different one.
    • We typically break for two weeks around Christmas and on national holidays. As different schools have varying breaks, there are no other pre-arranged vacation days.
    • For session dates, tuition due dates, and holidays, visit http://playmoremusic.com/calendar/
    • It is essential for the student to be prepared with their books and instrument at every lesson. Students who are repeatedly unprepared may forfeit their lesson.
    • Parents are welcome (and encouraged) to attend lessons. Parent/Teacher communication is essential.
    • In-home lessons require teachers to drive around all day. Please be flexible as Atlanta traffic can get unexpectedly snarled and impact more than one student. Your teacher may arrive 10 minutes on either side of your start time.
    • Play More Music passionately encourages performance. Students may choose to participate in some recitals and may be asked to participate in others.
    • This studio policy is subject to change. A current version of the studio policy is posted on our website.

Payment Terms

  • $42 for 30-minute lessons, $63 for 45-minute lessons, $84 for 60-minute lessons. Rates are $47/68/90 for lessons with Melissa Sebel. An “intro-session” of 4 half-hour lessons is $188.
    • A registration fee of $55 (per child, per instrument) applies to new students and students whose lessons have lapsed.
    • Those students not taking any summer lessons pay a $100 retainer fee to hold their slot with the teacher. (See terms in “Summer Lessons” below.)
    • Books are given to a student as needed and charged to the account when ordered, < $35 per session.
    • Tuition is due five (5) times a year, as noted on the website calendar. Tuition is due 2-3 weeks before the next session begins. Statements are sent to the email address provided on the registration form. Reminders are sent if no payment has been received.
    • Payments are only accepted online through our secure payment portal.
    • We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, or ACH withdraw through the secure portal.
    • A 5.5% late fee may be assessed to payments not submitted by the due date.
    • No refunds are issued – your payment reserves a lesson slot with an instructor for the session.
    • Play More Music reserves the right to cancel any lessons and accompanying time-slots for accounts which are not paid in full. No make-up lessons or credits will be applied. Other students may be offered the time slot.

Attendance & Make-up Lessons

  • ONE excused absence may be rescheduled per student per semester – one in fall (Aug-Dec) and the other in spring (Jan-May). All other absences are considered unexcused.
    • 48-hour notice is mandatory to consider an absence excused. This allows the teacher to make arrangements so they don’t have a gap in their schedule. All notification regarding scheduling must be directed to the teacher. In addition, you can contact Melissa Sebel in the office.
    • A make-up lesson will be scheduled by the teacher at convenient time for both teacher and student. Teachers will offer an in-person lesson, if available, but in most cases, the makeup lesson will be virtual or time will be added to existing lessons.
  • Teachers are asked to complete all makeups by the end of each semester (December and May).
    • If a teacher has a conflict and needs to reschedule, every attempt will be made to give an in-person lesson. Teachers are asked to keep their personal absences to a bare minimum.
    • Unused makeup lessons do not roll over to the next session.
    • Students wishing to make a permanent change to their lesson schedule must give two weeks’ notice, in writing via email to melissa@playmoremusic.com.
    • Students who register in the middle of a session are not eligible for a make-up lesson unless they are also registered for the next full session.
    • Instructors are required to wait 10-15 minutes if a student is not at their lesson at the scheduled time. The instructor will call or text before leaving. If there is more than one lesson at a house, the teacher will not return to that area.

À-La-Carte Summer Lessons

  • • Summer lessons follow all of the aforementioned policies with a few differences.
    • Students may sign up for 3-10 lessons that are self-curated. These À-la-carte lessons may not be the same day or time each week. At the beginning of the summer, email notification will be sent to parents with the confirmed lesson dates and times. These are fixed lessons and do not change.
    • Due to the self-curated nature of the Summer A-La-Carte Session, no makeup lessons are offered.
    • Summer lesson times are best estimates – since locations vary from week to week, it’s impossible to always calculate the travel time exactly. Thank you for your grace and we hope you enjoy not chauffeuring to this activity.
    • If you cannot take summer lessons, but would like to secure your spot with the same instructor for the Back-to-School Session, you can pay a retainer of $100 per student. This allows the teacher to know if they can accept new students in their schedule. Any student canceling lessons then resuming with the same teacher in the following session must also pay the $100 retainer fee.
    • If a student does not take summer lessons or retain their teacher, they will be placed with a new teacher and be considered a new student. The standard $55 registration fee is due when they re-enroll for lessons.

Please check the box on your registration form indicating you have read the Play More Music studio policy in its entirety, and understand and agree to its conditions.
